“The system should speak the users’ language, with words, phrases and concepts familiar to the user, rather than system-oriented terms.” – Jakob Nielsen

At Insight Engines, we create and use natural language technologies because we believe this will make complex data systems more accessible, understandable, and usable for more people. Natural language processing is an essential component in our products. We are looking for someone to help us adapt our technology to more domains, improve usability and accuracy, and apply machine learning where appropriate.

But enough about us, let’s talk about you. Do you enjoy the challenge of bootstrapping models from small, domain-specific datasets? Have you successfully combined learning models with rules-based systems to improve accuracy? Without access to a GPU cluster in the cloud? As an integral part of our technology team, you will work on the core of our natural language query engine. You’ll build state-of-the-art technologies using semantic parsing, question answering, query understanding, and information retrieval. You’ll get to play many roles, touch many parts of our system, and have a significant impact on our products.

The kinds of problems you’ll work on include:

  • Bootstrapping a corpus from limited data
  • Training domain-specific models for understanding queries
  • Maintaining high precision while improving recall
  • On-premises machine learning & NLP
  • Indexing, understanding, and normalizing messy data
  • Helping people navigate large, complex datasets

When applying, please tell us about some of the real world problems you have worked on using NLP, ML, and/or search (information retrieval) techniques. Women, people of color, minorities, and LGBTQ candidates are encouraged to apply.
